Taku Mokai is about children looking after their pets. There are five children featured, each with their own pet. They introduce their pet, give its name and explain how they look after their pet, all in simple repetitive te reo Maori sentence structures.
The children introduce their pet and explain how they care for it. On the last page, a boy in a wheelchair introduces his pet dog and explains how it cares for him too.

Author Biography
Sharon Holt lives in the Waikato region of New Zealand. She worked as a teacher and journalist before remembering her childhood dream of becoming a children's author. Since that wake up call, her children's books have been published by many trade and educational publishers. After starting to learn te reo Maori in 2002, Sharon got the idea for Te Reo Singalong books. She was working as a relief teacher in kindergartens and primary schools at the time, and realised that most teachers in mainstream education lack confidence to use and teach the level of te reo that is expected of them as part of the NZ curriculum. She designed Te Reo Singalong books to make it easy and fun to teach and learn more sentence structures in te reo.
